First Look At Our Off Grid Property

This is the moment we have been waiting for right here! We are standing in the middle of our very own off grid land!

Standing in the middle of our off grid land!

As soon as we started to drive down the twisty turny road along the river that led to our property, we knew we had definitely made the right choice. The area was remote enough to feel like you were driving to the end of the world, with just enough off grid cabins to know that you would always be part of a community that had the same interests and passion for nature and off grid living as we do!

The mountains, farmers fields and half frozen river meshed together to make an incredible landscape that we are excited to see with each changing season! In February, it truly was a winter wonderland!

The view at the bottom of the property along the rivers edge.

Our property has a staircase that leads down to rivers edge where there is a beautiful clearing that will be amazing in the summer months. Picture bon fires, fishing and kayaking! We knew that the staircase was long and steep, but nothing could prepare us for making the trek up or down in the deep snow.

The plotting started immediately as we got to the bottom of the 104 steps! The staircase will be a good way to burn off some of the beer and s’more calories in the summer and possibly make for a fantastic toboggan hill in the winter!!

We have an acre of thick, wooded forest behind the cabin clearing that was full of mature pine trees, birch, maple and ash. Many trees have fallen and offer our first season of fire wood and possible some building materials. First order of business will be getting out the chain saw and clearing the fallen wood from the land.

Large pine waiting to become a part of our plan!

Because we chose not to buy raw land, this property is already cleared for a cabin, has an off grid bathroom (video coming soon) and lots of character are already there to welcome you when you enter through the front gate.

The birdhouses attached to trees were a beautiful sight as we love to watch the birds. It will be great to learn about the wildlife in these woods throughout the seasons. We have already started researching the birds, fish and bigger wildlife that will wander through the area and hope to get some good photos in the future.

Handmade birdhouses graced the property.

The first sight you see after climbing a large hill and pulling in front of our gate is a sign that says “pine away”. We are still unsure of our camp name, and will wait until the spring to get a really good feel for the land, but we will leave this sign up for now! The name is very fitting for the property with all of the tall, mature pine trees!

Our own “private” land!

The first thing we noticed after getting out of the car was the amount of snow! It was past our knees in most areas and light and fluffy. We had a great workout walking through the forest to the back of the property and we will be bringing our snow mobile out here as soon as we get the chance!

Once we got to the back of the property, the snow struggles were worth every step. The area was completely remote and silent other then sound of birds and a light breeze through the pines.

The snow was up to our knees throughout most of the property. Might be time to invest in some snowshoes!

So after spending some time wandering the property and exploring almost every inch, we are totally and completely in love! We cannot wait to start our journey in the trees and learn more about the area.

Stay tuned for a video tour of the property!!

None of this would have been possible without the help of this amazing woman. She was our eyes when we could not make it to the property before closing and is the sole reason we were able to buy this land! Thank you for everything Jackie!!!
